The Mission
The mission of Lockport Main, Inc. is to encourage economic development in the Downtown Lockport, NY District within the context of Historic Preservation in ways appropriate to today's marketplace. By focusing primarily on a Four-Point Development Plan which includes Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Restructuring, this approach advocates a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of traditional commercial districts based on their unique assets: distinctive architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community.
The Vision
Lockport Main St. Inc envisions a growing inviting and vibrant Historic District that is filled to capacity and serves the heart of the community, attracting residents and tourists of all ages. This progressive downtown built around our Historic Erie Canal Locks will offer residential and commercial attractions including dining, shopping, art, entertainment, parks, other activities and events in a friendly and safe environment. The integrity and character of our unique Canal Community will be a showcase for the region, with revitalized buildings, attractive storefronts, unique shops and a walkable, livable and sustainable downtown.
Our vision will be achieved through a strong working
Board of Directors,
a broad base of volunteers, community support, reliable funding sources, as well as partnerships with private and governmental entities, all working toward common goals.
